FAQ

Who benefits from the SCC Lucky Ducky Derby?

All proceeds from the SCC Lucky Ducky Derby support the Somerset Children’s Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing therapy services for children with special needs.

How does the race work?

Each duck you foster costs $5. Once you foster a duck, it is assigned a unique tag number and entered into the race.

How do the ducks get into the water?

All fostered ducks are placed in a large bin and released from the bridge at the starting point of the race.

What happens if not all 5,000 ducks are fostered?

Only the ducks that have been fostered will be placed in the race. Any ducks not fostered won't be included in the bin.

When and where is the SCC Lucky Ducky Derby, and what does it cost?

The SCC Lucky Ducky Derby will take place on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 107 Elm Street, Neshanic Station, NJ. The duck race begins at approximately 4:00 PM. The first three ducks to cross the finish line will win a gift card, and additional prizes may be awarded based on donations received.

How will I know if my duck wins?

Winners will be contacted using the information provided at the time of fostering.. You do not need to be present to win, but please ensure your contact information is written clearly.

Are real ducks used in the race?

No, all ducks used in the race are rubber ducks!

Who can foster a duck?

Anyone 18 years or older can foster a duck.

Can I keep the duck I adopt?

No. After the race, all rubber ducks are collected and prepared for future events.

Do I need to be present to win?

No, you do not need to be present to claim your prize, but we encourage you to join us for the festivities! If you are not present you will need to make arrangement to come to the Somerset Children's Center in Bridgewater to collect your prize.

Can I foster a duck on race day?

Yes, ducks can be fostered up until 45 minutes before the race begins. As long as they are available.
